The Bridesmaid Dress

By Delores Miller

Almost 53 years ago, was our wedding day, May 25, 1957.  Four  couples, plus two flower girls consisted of our wedding party.   One of the bridesmaids was my friend Hilda.  We had known each other since grade school and high school.

Hilda and Kenny were married three weeks before  Russ and I
on a beautiful spring day in Wisconsin.  We were attendants at their wedding.

Our  bridesmaids had dresses of yellow and blue.  Custom made
at a bridal shop.  The day of our wedding the skies opened
up and rained hard all day.

While housecleaning Hilda found her bridesmaid dress from
our wedding, tucked away in her attic - in a house where they
lived for the last 50 years.

We were at a New Year's Eve party at Hilda and Ken's house,
welcoming in 2010.  As a surprise Hilda gave me the bridesmaid
dress from 1957.  Packed in it's original box.  In perfect
condition.

Light blue, size 12, with a 26 inch waist, organza, satin underskirt,
lace bodice, strapless, held up by 4 staves. Dotted Swiss princess
gown. Bolero top, lace head piece. Worn with a hoop petticoat.

This bridesmaid dress will be a heirloom to pass on to
my granddaughters.  In such a good condition, after being
in Hilda's attic for 50 years, still could be used as a prom
dress, or for a friend's wedding.

Thanks Hilda.
