No. 46, February 2008
Journal
Here it is February 14, 2008 and, guess what, we are in the midst of another Wisconsin blizzard. The weatherman is calling for 6-8 inches of snow, with wind, so the snow drifts should pile up again. But Russ has the Case Loader tractor plugged into the heater, so whenever the snow stops, he can again plow snow.
Sturgeon spear fishing was last weekend on Lake Winnebago, people do grapple and snag the 80-90 pound fish through the 17 inches of ice. I don't know what they do with them, once they catch them, but guess it is alot of fun. A man stores his fishing shanty in our machine shed for the rest of the year, nice little building he hauls on the ice.
Off I go next Tuesday to California to visit cousin Ellie Kunstmann in San Marcos for 10 days. I'm sick of winter, and hope the sun shines there. We are going to cook and bake- molassas cookies and cream puffs, plus other stuff. Will take a shuttle bus from the airport to her town 40 miles away. Russ will stay home and guard the farm.
So we are bored in the house with the yard so icy, it is a major trip just walking to the mail box. Most of the time, we just sit and look out the window and watch the icicles grow from the melting snow on the north roof.
Southern Wisconsin, last week got 20 inches of snow. That is were Keith and Matt live. It was sort of a lake effect backlash snow storm caused by the tornadoes in Tennessee and other southern states.
We are reading books. I housecleaned and found the boxed set of 'Little House On The Prairie' books, and reread most of them, especially the 'Long Winter' and 'Farmer Boy'. Laura Ingalls Wilder was a good writer. Our children read those books when they were young. We have visited most of the sites where the Wilder and Ingalls family lived, in Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota and Missouri.
Ash Wednesday and Lent began last week and midweek church services. Visiting guest pastors preach.
The Arizona Disaster - The New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl Football game to the New York Giants. Ah, well, there is always next year.
Presidential Election year here in the USA, Candidates are campaigning in Wisconsin this week, Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama and others. We don't know who to vote for. None are good.
Been going to movies at the theater, just saw 'Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins' about a Hollywood radio host going back to Georgia for his parents 50th wedding anniversary. It was good. Also saw 'Mad Money' about stealing from the national mint, it was funny. Then we go out to eat at Culvers.
Russ is selling some baled hay that was sitting in the barn from last summer, $3 a bale. Keeps us in groceries.
But was to the dentist, had a tooth capped to the tune of $890. Took a hunk of change.
Again Happy Valentines Day.
