Words
By Carolyn Cecil
Folded-down, rumpled page,
graying paperback
holder of words,
solace-laden verse.
Langston Hughes trills
sweeter than hope,
newer than first-heard:
tough love,
stronger than a fist
shoved into a wall.
His will to live.
Solitary, sophisticate,
victor, everyman.
He captures me,
captures you.
I want to touch him,
fine maker of words.
